Further Information
We are a skilled and experienced team who are passionate about making a difference to young people and working creatively and in partnership with adolescents and their families.

In a time of austerity, job satisfaction couldn’t be more important and despite the challenges of the work, our team of social workers, youth & family workers and senior practitioners (one of whom was shortlisted for SW of the Year!) describe themselves as a happy team who love the work they do! We are looking for a further qualified social worker with a range of experience to complete our team and to be part of this exciting new service. You will need experience of managing a complex case load, the ability to engage with both challenging and rewarding young people and families, and be committed to working in this specialist area.

The Targeted Youth Support Service (TYSS) is a new and innovative service focused on offering a range of specialist services to young people aged 13-18 and their families who are in need of additional support. Our teams include NEET, Community & Interventions, Youth Offending and Youth & Family. For the Youth & Family team this work involves carrying out assessments for young people identified as a Child in Need and working in partnership with other agencies to ensure the appropriate provision of services to enable these young people to reach their full potential and to avoid the need for escalation to child protection or care proceedings. For young people at imminent risk of care the team will provide intensive family support to enable young people to remain at home and to avoid young people from entering the care system.

Working in partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies from Peterborough you will be committed to making a significant contribution to young people who are experiencing a range of difficulties and working effectively with them to secure better outcomes. You will work directly with young people who are at risk of family breakdown, homelessness, being exploited, substance misuse, domestic violence, offending and many other significant issues.

This post is to cover the maternity leave of an existing post holder and is offered as an initial 6 months contract with expected extension to at least 12 months.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

If you would like to make a difference to the lives of these young people and feel you have the skills to do so please contact Chris Leach, Youth & Family Team Manager for more information on 07943 747814
