Further Information
Youth & Family Social Worker needed!

Tight teams, low caseloads, life changing results. It’s a bold statement to make.
Join our children’s social care teams at Peterborough City Council and experience it for yourself.

“Peterborough values me… it’s a compassionate organisation that genuinely values its workers”

“I feel safe in my practice, I feel safe to say I think I might have got this wrong”

“We can be really effective in the work that we do and the outcomes we achieve for children – that makes it worth getting up in the morning”.

These are just some of the responses we had from our social workers when we asked them why they love working here. Does this sound like an environment where you could make a real difference?

Having achieved ‘Good’ in our 2018 Ofsted inspection we have firmly set our sights on ‘Outstanding’, and are looking for passionate and committed social workers to join us.

We are a skilled and experienced team who are passionate about making a difference to young people and working creatively and in partnership with adolescents and their families. In a time of austerity, job satisfaction couldn’t be more important and despite the challenges of the work, our team of social workers, youth & family workers and senior practitioners (one of whom was shortlisted for SW of the Year!) describe themselves as a happy team who love the work they do! We are looking for a further qualified social worker with a range of experience to complete our team and to be part of this exciting new service. You will need experience of managing a complex case load, the ability to engage with both challenging and rewarding young people and families, and be committed to working in this specialist area. For the right person we would also welcome applications from ASYE.

The Targeted Youth Support Service (TYSS) is a new and innovative service focused on offering a range of specialist services to young people aged 13-18 and their families who are in need of additional support. Our teams include NEET, Community & Interventions, Youth Offending and Youth & Family. For the Youth & Family team this work involves carrying out assessments for young people identified as a Child in Need and working in partnership with other agencies to ensure the appropriate provision of services to enable these young people to reach their full potential and to avoid the need for escalation to child protection or care proceedings. For young people at imminent risk of care the team will provide intensive family support to enable young people to remain at home and to avoid young people from entering the care system.

Working in partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies from Peterborough you will be committed to making a significant contribution to young people who are experiencing a range of difficulties and working effectively with them to secure better outcomes. You will work directly with young people who are at risk of family breakdown, homelessness, being exploited, substance misuse, domestic violence, offending and many other significant issues. If you would like to make a difference to the lives of these young people and feel you have the skills to do so please contact Kirstie Lloyd-Uzoegbu, TYSS Intensive Service Manager, for further information on 07920 160234.
