All about the role

We are seeking an experienced Manager with a passion to lead and develop our Corporate Parenting Service. You will work closely with the newly appointed Head of Service for Corporate Parenting and join them and the Children in Care and Care Leaver teams on their journey to drive consistently high-quality services for every child, young person and care experienced adult.

You will be an approachable and visible service manager for the service and will be available to your Team Managers and members of the service. You will be open to innovative ideas and will encourage the sharing of these to the benefit of those receiving a service from us. You will champion the children, young people, and young adults we care for across multiple fora and will challenge discrimination through education and support to internal and external leaders, colleagues, and partners.

You will collaborate with your managers, our quality assurance service, children, young people, and their families to drive the performance and quality of our service delivery. You will have experience of leading a learning culture which promotes and supports the safeguarding of all children and young people we care for. You will have high expectations, provide high challenge and high support to enable your team to do their absolute best for all children and young people.

Through effective line management, reflective supervision, and team collaboration, you will drive a culture of trauma informed and relational practice which involves children, young people, and their families. You will ensure that children, young people, their families, and people who are important to them are valued and are central to all decision making.

You will understand the importance of maintaining familial relationships and will continually review reunification opportunities with your Social Workers and the Independent Reviewing Officer Service.

All about you

You have current registration with Social Work England

You are experienced, whilst keen to learn and develop.

You understand the importance of quality assurance activity, feedback, and a learning culture.

You have a full Driving licence and be willing and able to travel locally and sometimes nationally You have an in-depth knowledge of current legislation and guidance relevant to children in care and their experiences.

You are solution focussed and creative, managing challenging situations with confidence and innovation.

You will be aware of the political context of the work we do and be competent and confident in writing and presenting reports to a variety of internal and external partners.

In 2023, Peterborough’s Children’s Services received an OFSTED judgement of inadequate. However, it was highlighted that children in care received appropriate support from the children in care teams and we know our children well.

Our service is vibrant, and our practitioners and managers are committed to achieving life changing outcomes for children and young people. Our enthusiastic and dedicated Social Workers and Managers support each other and have strong relationships with their peers across children’s services and the partnership.
