Further Information
We are seeking a qualified social worker or probation officer with least 2 years post qualified experience. You will have a range of experience of working with young people within the criminal justice system, and be passionate and committed to providing specialist support to young people and their families.

The Targeted Youth Support Service (TYSS) is a new and innovative service focused on offering a range of specialist services to young people aged 13-18 and their families who are in need of additional support. Our teams include NEET, Community & Interventions, Youth & Family and Youth Offending.

During the recent HMIP Inspection, Peterborough Youth Offending Team were rated overall Good with areas of Outstanding with the report referring to our “skilled and experienced group of operational staff who are committed to delivering high-quality services”. The inspectorate team described “a powerful sense of purpose within the team and an impressive balance....between the sometimes conflicting demands of meeting children’s needs and managing the risk of harm to others that can result from negative behaviours.” This excellent outcome is testament to the dedication and commitment to young people by the team who continue to set high standards and work to further develop existing areas of practice.

The Youth Offending Service is a multi-disciplinary team delivering services to prevent and reduce offending behaviour amongst young people. A vacancy is available for a highly experienced practitioner who is able to work with a wide range of young people who enter the criminal justice system. Applicants will need a Social Work degree or diploma, or have a Probation or equivalent professional qualification. Extensive experience is necessary of working with offenders, courts, risk assessment, report writing and with partner agencies. As the role is a Senior post, an in-depth knowledge of the appropriate areas of practice is necessary, to be able to provide support, mentoring and supervision of other members of staff. The post holder will be required to represent the YOS at external meetings as well as being an integral part of internal working groups and development aimed at moving the service forward. The post holder will be required to deputise for the team manager when appropriate.

The position is within a very challenging but rewarding area, working with young offenders ranging from those who have just reached the court system through to those in prisons. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of community and custodial sentences ensuring effective assessment, intervention planning, review and risk management. To divert young people from offending effectively, the post-holder will be working with a range of other team members whose roles include parenting, substance misuse, psychology, accommodation, victims, education, training and employment. This post will be expected to take a lead in High Risk work across the wider TYSS, overseeing cases at risk of exploitation, involvement in County Lines and those young people subject to Intensive Supervision and Surveillance as a direct alternative to custody.

This vacancy is a permanent post and will be based at Sand Martin House in Peterborough.
