Further Information
Peterborough City Council, through their Section 75 Agreement, provides mental health social work which is integrated in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT). Whilst we are an integrated service, Social Workers work to an aligned model of service delivery. We are based within multidisciplinary teams, which include Community Psychiatric Nurses, Doctors, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Support Workers and Peer Support Workers.

We are currently recruiting for a full time Senior Practitioner who is also an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualified to work within the Older People Mental Health Service covering Peterborough City Council area.

Do you know Peterborough? Do you know what a vibrant and diverse city it is?

Our service links in with the acute inpatient and CRHTT services to ensure timely and effective discharge back into the person’s community after admission.

We provide support to adults focusing on a person’s strengths and assets, working in a collaborative way with them, their carers and partner agencies to meet their needs, promote recovery, achieve outcomes, and best value. We look to promote and create opportunities for people to self-manage, to be able to access the right help, at the right time when they need it, and to be co-producers of their plans, services, and support.

All Social Workers working in our service are expected to have a good working knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act (and DOLS). Social Workers are expected to apply a social perspective to their work and keep social care issues current in their practice to help promote independence and recovery.

We encourage and support our staff to take part in the training of new Social Workers through our links with Universities in the Degree and the MA in Social Work and also the ASYE, and we work as Practice Educators. Peterborough City Council and CPFT offer training opportunities for staff to keep their practice and Social Work registration up to date and improve their knowledge and skills generally and progress in their career.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of the role, please contact George Hall, Social work manager on 07811237106.

There has never been a better time to work for our council. An explosion of growth is taking place in Peterborough which will benefit everyone who lives, works and spends time here.

Peterborough’s new university opened its doors last year, with phases two and three in progress, and a new government hub at Fletton Quays opened its doors earlier this year.

Plans are afoot for many other city centre sites, including the railway station which the city council has received £48million from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund to redevelop, and a new city centre hub and footbridge across the embankment, as part of a number of projects being funded by the Government’s Towns Fund.

Peterborough’s time really is now

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Peterborough and want our workforce to reflect this diversity, which we believe is beneficial for our employees, the organisation and the communities we serve.
