Further Information
We are looking for an experienced media professional to join our busy Communications team.
As one of the fastest growing cities in the country, we have lots to say. We’re a modern thinking council, with a clear focus on identifying and developing new ways of working to provide the good quality services that our residents require.
As Senior Media Officer you would play a key role in communicating with the public through the media and in forming relationships with journalists on a local, regional and national level.
You would be the first port of call for all media requiring information about the council, its services and decisions made, including responding to queries and coordinating responses and interviews as necessary.
It would be your responsibility to develop, maintain and proactively use contacts at print and broadcast media locally, regionally and nationally to identify opportunities for, and secure, media coverage for the council.
You would also produce written content for the media, and social media, and provide expert advice to officers and councillors.
Applicants need to have significant experience of handling complex media issues and a proven track record in generating media stories for an organisation.
In addition, applicants ideally need to be able to demonstrate experience and/or awareness of working in a political environment and be able to form and maintain strong productive, professional working relationships with councillors, staff and partners at all levels.
We are looking for someone with an excellent communication skill set, exemplary writing and editorial abilities and a strong news sense.
If you think you could be right for this demanding but rewarding role in our friendly, well-respected team then we look forward to hearing from you.
