Further Information
There has never been a better time to work for our council. An explosion of growth is taking place in Peterborough which will benefit everyone who lives, works and spends time here. Cranes, scaffolding and new buildings emerging on our skyline are a common sight – with plenty more currently being planned.

Peterborough has a new university, with phase three in progress, and a new government hub at Fletton Quays opened its doors this year. Plans are afoot for many other city centre sites, including the railway station which the city council has received £48million from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund to redevelop, along with a number of regeneration projects being funded by the Government’s Towns Fund.

Innovative work is taking place to transform services, so that we can meet the ambitions set out in our Corporate Strategy and move closer to becoming a financially sustainable council.

Peterborough’s time really is now and there has never been a better time to provide public services for people who live in the city and those who work and spend time here.

We are looking for 2 individuals to join our Finance Team as Senior Accountants, specifically supporting our Corporate Services and Place & Economy Directorates. This is to enable effective decision making across a number of areas which could include the Chief Executive’s Office, Property, ICT, Finance, HR, Legal & Governance, Housing & Communities, Growth & Regeneration, and Infrastructure & Environment.

The ideal candidate for a Senior Accountant role will:
• have the technical skills required and demonstrate a businesslike approach to the role;
• build partnerships and maintain strong relationships managers and their teams;
• support financial and resource matters across various services;
• improve the understanding of business performance;
• support the Senior Finance Business Partner and Head of Finance to develop and deliver financial strategy, and provide analysis and insight on business opportunities, providing options and scenarios for sound business decisions;
• be proactive, flexible and able to manage multiple demands with minimal direction; &
• have excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

Working for our council comes with a wide range of benefits including generous annual leave, flexible working, enhanced maternity and paternity pay, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, salary sacrifice schemes including car leasing and a cycle to work scheme and the chance to complete volunteering days in the community.

We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Peterborough and want our workforce to reflect this diversity, which we believe is beneficial for our employees, the organisation and the communities we serve.

If you think you have the right experience and qualifications for this role, we want to hear from you. For an informal discussion please contact either Nick Hutchins (nick.hutchins@peterborough.gov.uk) or Chris Yates (chris.yates@peterborough.gov.uk).
