This is a great opportunity to play your part in developing cutting-edge processes, growing the local economy and delivering positive outcomes in the newly established Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority. We strive to improve the life chances and quality of life of people across the region, and therefore, are looking to recruit to a newly created Scrutiny Officer post to provide professional and non-political support for council committee meetings and our scrutiny function.

The role will include the opportunity to work at the heart of local-decision making and we are looking for someone with the right skills, abilities and talent to support our Councillors in their work.

You will demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a politically sensitive environment. You will also have highly developed diplomacy and negotiation skills and an ability to communicate efficiently and confidently with Council members and officers at all levels, external agencies and the Public.

You will be enthusiastic and solution focused and will have an excellent attention to detail, an organised approach, good political awareness and working knowledge of the decision making process and legislation practice. Sound knowledge of Local Government law and understanding of civic and corporate governance is essential.

Experience in a similar role within the public sector is essential. Some evening and weekend work will occasionally be required.

You will need to be flexible in your office base as the Monitoring Officer is located in Peterborough whilst it is anticipated that the Democratic Services team will be delivered from East Cambridgeshire District Council and there will be a requirement for reasonable travel.

If you feel you are a good match for this role, we would be keen to hear from you.
