We are looking for a highly motivated team player to work within our selective licensing team. Ideally you will have knowledge and experience working within the private housing sector. You must have an interest in housing and helping to ensure that tenants live in safe warm decent homes. You must be keen and able to work on own initiative, think on your feet and able to handle difficult situations and challenging people confidently both over the phone and in the field.

You will be based in Peterborough which is a fast growing, multi-cultural city. The team is a busy multi skilled team within the Prevention and Enforcement Service


You will be responsible for:

- Undertaking visits to assess properties as part of the selective licensing application process to assess suitability of accommodation, identify and record housing defects.
- Working with landlords, agents and members of the public to provide education, information and advice in relation to a wide range of topics but specifically around housing and licensing.
- Taking a lead responsibility for investigating unlicensed properties, ensuring they become licensed or appropriate legal action taken, including prosecutions.
- To support the delivery of the Prevention and Enforcement Service and specific projects as identified by the Safer Peterborough Partnership and other strategic decision making bodies within the Council.


Excellent customer service skills, organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a busy front line team. You will also have experience of carrying out investigations and be able to manage and progress legal cases.
