We are looking for an outstanding legal professional to direct and lead our expanding Planning, Property and Highways team and provide a high quality, professional service in relation to all legal planning, highways, commercial property and/or social housing matters for Peterborough City Council and their client Councils.
As a qualified planning lawyer, you will be working closely with Members and Officers and will be involved in complex and challenging work.
If you are a planning lawyer, you will act as an adviser to Planning Committees at Peterborough City Council and two other client Councils, including responsibility for the proper conduct of Planning-related Inquiries. You will be drafting and negotiating Section 106 Agreements and other planning-related documentation. Experience in one of the fields listed would be desirable: Highways, Commercial Property or Social Housing.
If you are a Highways lawyers, you will be working closely with our clients and may involve representing our clients in contentious matters at Magistrates Court. There is currently 3 lawyers in Planning and Highways supported by 2 legal officers. Experience in one of the fields listed would be desirable: Planning, Commercial Property or Social Housing.
If you are a Property Lawyer, you will be responsible for all Property related matters which is shared amongst the team. The Property team is currently comprised of 6 lawyers supported by 2 legal officers. Experience in one of the fields listed would be desirable: Highways or Planning or Social Housing.
The entire Grade 13 team are acting on at least one development per person and there is an expectation that a new recruit will do the same
You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive or Conveyancer with a current practising certificate with at least 10 years’ experience in Planning, Highways, Commercial Property Law or Social Housing experience. You will have extensive knowledge and experience of advising on all aspects of Planning law or Property law or Highways law or Social Housing law, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively on your own as well as being part of a wider team of lawyers. The successful candidate will have the ability to engender trust and confidence and be able to show tact, diplomacy and political awareness with resilience.
The role is a 4 day a week role, but we will consider requests for full time working and you will be expected to work from home for the majority of the period and attend any meetings and committee’s virtually until the Covid threat has passed and we are working in the new way of working.
