Personal Advisor - Leaving Care Team

All about the Role

Join us and work within our Leaving Care Service as a Personal Advisor working with our care experienced young people. Each day working as a Personal Advisor will be varied whilst remaining focused on achieving positive outcomes for our young people.

Personal Advisors provide advice, assistance and support to our care leavers, helping them to prepare for independent living and to achieve their wishes and goals for the future.  At Peterborough, we strive for aspirational outcomes for the young people we support. Our priorities are to ensure that our young people are living in suitable accommodation, have opportunities to engage in education, employment/training, and can contribute positively within the local community.

You will be working with eligible, relevant, former relevant and qualifying young people, providing 1:1 support, and undertaking the role of Personal Advisor as set out in the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and the Children and Social Work Act 2017. Your role will also involve ensuring all our Care Leavers understand and are able to access our local offer.

As a Corporate Parent we want to support our young people to achieve successful transitions into adulthood. We have high aspirations for our young people and aim to achieve the best outcomes for them through SMART goals and a trauma-informed, relationship-based approach.

All about You

You will be committed to working with young people from diverse backgrounds, who will have diverse needs, promoting good outcomes for all our care leavers. You will be passionate about working with care experienced young people, and you have a clear understanding about the multiple barriers that our young people can face as they navigate their way to independence.

You will be resilient, flexible, empathetic and enjoy building relationships with young people. You will be confident in networking with partners and advocating for young people in a range of settings.

You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely recording is kept. You must have excellent organisational skills, must be passionate about working with young people to improve their outcomes, must work in partnership with other agencies involved with the young persons.

You have a minimum of a NVQ level 3 qualification or equivalent in a relevant work area.

You will have access to a car and be willing to travel around and outside the Peterborough Local authority area (travelling is essential to this role).

All about our Team

Our service dynamics are built on mutual respect, collaboration, and a shared commitment to making a difference. You will be part of a team that values open communication, continuous learning, and peer support.

In 2023, Peterborough’s Children’s Services received an OFSTED judgement of inadequate. However, now is an exciting time to join our service as we progress on our improvement journey. With a stable and highly motivated management group, our service is developing as we strive for the best outcomes for our young people.  We are aspirational for our young people and want to support them to aim higher and live their best lives in every way.

Our purpose-built office offers large river and green space views and is conveniently located near main road and rail transport links, fostering collaboration and seamless integration of services for the best outcomes for our care leavers.
