Further Information
Peterborough City Council is a large unitary council that prides itself on delivering excellent services and value for money to its communities. The Council recognises the need to ensure good governance in delivering public services and has an Audit Committee which oversees and assures these arrangements.

Following external reviews of the council’s governance and finances we need to strengthen the membership and leadership of our Audit Committee by appointing three independent members to support us on our journey to financial sustainability. One of the appointees will be asked to take on the role of Chair of the Audit Committee and lead on reviewing and scrutinising the Council’s financial affairs, including oversight of the Council’s internal and external audit arrangements.

Candidates for these important roles will need to be able to demonstrate their independence from politics and relevant skills and experience in order to provide robust challenge to the council’s financial management. The roles will involve reviewing and assessing the council’s financial risks along with the Council’s internal control and corporate governance arrangements and making reports and recommendations to Full Council on the adequacy and effectiveness of those arrangements.

The independent members will be appointed for a period of up to four years and will be expected to attend and actively participate in meetings of the Audit Committee, which met 7 times in 2021.
An annual honorarium of £1500 will be paid (£3000 for the Chair), together with reimbursement for travelling and subsistence expenses.
