Peterborough Limited is the newly formed Local Authority Trading Company of Peterborough City Council. From February 2019, 400 staff engaged with refuse collections, transport provision, street cleansing, parks and grounds maintenance, office maintenance and cleaning will transfer to this Company, with the possibility of other Council services transferring to Peterborough Limited at a later date.

We are looking to appoint a commercially minded Finance Director who, reporting to the Managing Director, will be part of the Company’s Senior Management Team. As a member of the Board, you will play a key role in contributing to the strategic direction of the business whilst ensuring sound financial controls are in place to support the delivery of a first class service to the residents and businesses of Peterborough.

As Finance Director, you will lead on all financial issues of the Company including accountancy, insurance, banking, tax and auditing as well as providing Company secretarial duties. What makes this role unique is the opportunity it provides to create from start up a professional finance function which genuinely adds value to the business.

Able to think strategically as well as being comfortable working with the day to day routine, in this role, you will be responsible for preparing budgets, accounts, income statements and cash flow forecasts for the Company, for presentation to the Board and Shareholder's Committee. In addition, you will ensure that all the company's financial practices are in line with statutory regulations and legislation, ensure good governance is followed in line with agreements made between the Company and the Council and that all Company Act obligations are met. You will provide advice and guidance to operational line management and will also have responsibility for the Company’s IT function in addition to managing the finance team.

You will have proven experience of preparing complex reports and business plans designed to support the Company’s vision, objectives and priorities.

Of degree calibre, you will be a professionally qualified accountant to at least CIMA, ACCA, ACA or CIPFA level. Highly numerate and with excellent communication skills, you will be a credible financial professional who is able to build strong relationships with operational management. Ideally you will have a working knowledge of Sage financial software.
