People and Communities have an exciting opportunity to join the Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service. The Deputy Safeguarding Lead will have excellent communication skills, technical knowledge of Children’s safeguarding and the ability to work across both Peterborough and Cambridgeshire as part of a shared service. Peterborough has been rated a GOOD Local Authority and we are looking for someone to join our service who is passionate about achieving and promoting excellent outcomes for Children and their families within a Quality Assurance approach.

The Deputy Safeguarding Lead is responsible for the performance and impact of the Child Protection Conference chairs, Independent Reviewing Officers and Local Authority Designated Officer. They will be confident in recognising and building on good practice and being able to facilitate and execute effective challenge within a restorative approach.

Within the service there is an established team of Independent Chairs who chair meetings on behalf of Peterborough and Cambridgeshire’s Children’s Safeguarding Board; this includes child looked after reviews and child protection conferences. The Local Authority Designated Officer also sits within this service.

You will lead on elements of the service business plan, including work progressing around participation and the lived experience of the child and will manage quality assurance and safeguarding processes within the Performance Management Framework that supports the priorities of the Service, department and Council.

We are looking for an individual who will ensure that the Independent Chairs and other staff members within the service discharge their duties to the highest standard and support staff to work collaboratively and sensitively with service users and their families and where necessary manage the complaints process.

The Deputy Safeguarding Lead will be responsible for the allocation of work and implementation of Service improvement, policy development and operational standards. You will also manage the supervision, annual appraisal, personal development and career progression of individual team members including capability and disciplinary matters in accordance with organisational policy and will manage and monitor a range of delegated budgets assigned to the post.

As Deputy Safeguarding Lead you will also be responsible for the collection and analysis of performance management information and to manage this information effectively to achieve the Departments objectives and targets for improvement. This will also entail representing the Department and Council at strategic meetings and presenting reports.
