An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Assistant role within the Children’s Commissioning Finance Team at Cambridgeshire County Council. The post is for 37 hours per week. The position will be based in Huntingdon but you may need to travel to our office in Cambridge.

We are looking for candidates who have a flexible approach in order to deal with set deadlines and varying workloads in a fast paced environment. You will be required to contribute to the effective running of the Finance Team, paying invoices, ensuring their accuracy and supporting the efficient delivery of payments to Providers. You will need to possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills combined with the ability to represent the service in a positive and professional manner. You must have a pro-active approach and the ability to work independently. Using your own initiative is essential and you will need to be a good team player.

The role will involve effectively utilising a wide range of IT systems. You must have a good working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office packages (including Word, Outlook and the internet) and in addition have a comprehensive knowledge and experience of using excel spreadsheets and client databases.
The successful candidate will need to be highly organised, self-motivated, be able to work on their own initiative and have a methodical approach to tasks. You will need to prioritise workloads effectively, have the ability to understand the County Council financial processes and systems and the ability to learn new systems quickly and effectively. You will need a strong understanding of confidentiality and data protection. Good communication skills and a confident telephone manner are essential as you will be the first point of contact for Providers regarding financial/invoice queries.

A training and induction programme will be offered, with ongoing support.
