What does job satisfaction look like to you?

Is it a friendly and nurturing team where you feel happy, supported and comfortable to be the very best version of yourself?

We can all agree on the notion that a happy social worker, who feels a sense of purpose and belonging, is best placed to positively impact the lives they help support.

Following our decoupling from Cambridge County Council we are building our new Fostering Team from a blank sheet — well not completely blank, we’ve written the words “job satisfaction”, “supportive” and “nurturing” as our guiding principles. We believe in creating a happy team from the outset.

The new team will be small but impactful. We have a new Team Manager and will soon start looking for marketing and recruitment support, but our initial priority is hiring Social Workers to act as mainstream assessors and assessors for connected people.

You won’t have to travel too far afield with our team, which is a bonus, but you will need to have means of transport to be able to make appointments within the local area.

On the theme of travel, if you are relocating to Peterborough, we can offer a package of up to £8,000 to help you settle in the area and generous retention payments — we can give you more detail of how this works in practice, at interview stage.

If you enjoy building relationships, this role will give you the chance to really get to know people in the local community, through your links into local business and community groups. You will also get to work with a variety of diverse services within the Council as well.

As this is a new team, you won’t be the only “newbie”! And although our team is new, you will inherit the already existing cohort of foster carers, many of whom are long standing associates of the service and highly engaged.

If you have a social work qualification, current SWE registration, a good understanding of the legislative and regulatory frameworks of multi-agency statutory children’s services and excellent interpersonal skills (including being able to work directly with children of all ages), you will be a great fit for this role.

Like any strong assessors, you are also naturally analytical and adept at getting to the bottom of the detail — cutting through the information you receive and relating the key elements to the fostering task (so you’re more than likely a strong writer too).

You rightly regard Fostering as a specialism but if you are a qualified social worker and have experience of assessment in other areas of social work, we feel the skills are transferable and can provide you with the mentoring and development to make that transition across.

We love positive and diverse personalities and try to make our work fun, especially given the interactive nature of the fostering recruitment process. If you share our enthusiasm about the work we do and the positive change it has on lives, please click apply and we promise to respond quickly once shortlisting has completed

If you wish to discuss the role further please contact either Tasalla Shaiyen on tasalla.shaiyen@peterborough.gov.uk or 07961236675 or Amanda Carter on amanda.carter@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or 07800601999

This is a rolling campaign, and we will review applications daily so please don't wait for the closing date to apply. Candidates will be progressed shortly after they apply, and the opportunity will be filled as soon as we identify a suitable candidate, which may be before the closing date. So please don't hesitate, apply today.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Peterborough and want our workforce to reflect this diversity, which we believe is beneficial for our employees, the organisation and the communities we serve
