Peterborough City Council is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to adoptive families and children. We believe in the power of Life Story Work to help children understand their past and build a positive sense of identity.
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Life Story Worker to join our team and create life’s story books as well as make a meaningful difference in the lives of adopted children.
Your life story is what makes you, you and for children who have been adopted it is vital that they understand their past to help them make sense of their future.
This is where the life story team help by liaising with different professionals, as well as birth parents, to gain as much knowledge about the child’s life prior to them being adopted. They are then able to create a life story book for the child which they will be able to refer to throughout their lives.
All about you
You're a great communicator and able to have difficult conversations.
You have experience working with children and adults.
You understand the need to be sensitive to the emotional needs and experiences of children young people.
You have the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information in a child-friendly manner.
You are able to listen attentively and validate the feelings and experiences of the child or young person.
You have experience of trauma informed practice.
You are competent in IT.
You are able to manage your own workload and schedule.

You will find our selection process quick and relatively pain free! After shortlisting, we will aim to get you in for an interview with two Team Managers and that will feature a scenario-based exercise. Then if all goes well, we will extend offers soon after.
