Further Information
Peterborough City Council are pleased to announce that as part of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Serious Youth Violence Strategy, we are recruiting a fixed term Serious Youth Violence Youth Worker to join our team.
The post holder will work directly with children and young people in their communities. This will include detached youth work and also opportunities for 1:1 and group work intervention. A key focus of the role is to reduce the likelihood of children becoming involved in serious youth violence whilst engaging them in positive activities that enhance their wellbeing and attainment.
The successful candidate will also deliver early intervention work with children aged Year 5 and 6 in primary school settings to support them to:
• Be better informed about serious violence (as well as broader criminality) and its associated risks.
• Feel safer in the public spaces they occupy.
• Re-engage with their communities.
• Build rapport and develop relationships with trusted adults in their local community.
• Improve their health resilience and wellbeing.
• Develop their social and emotional skills, increasing their ability to cope with aspects of everyday life.
The Serious Youth Violence Worker will practice within the Diversion Team which is embedded in the Youth Justice Service. Our approach is strengths based, trauma informed, child first and restorative. We will work with children and young people to reduce reoffending and support those who have been harmed by crime. We will engage children in education, training, and employment opportunities, seek to remove barriers to their involvement, and consider diversity and disproportionality in all aspects of our work.
Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
The post is 37 hours per week and will require occasional evening and weekend work. The role is fixed term until March 2025.
If you feel you have the required skills and knowledge for this role and are keen to be part of this new and exciting project, then we look forward to receiving your application!
We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Peterborough and want our workforce to reflect this diversity, which we believe is beneficial for our employees, the organisation and the communities we serve.
