Help Peterborough transform

Peterborough is a wonderful place to live and work. We’re the fourth fastest growing city in the UK, a place with prospects, potential and great ambition for our residents.

About the role
Join us as Service Director Financial Management (one of our two Deputy S151’s), and you will support the Executive Director – Corporate Services S151 and lead the Finance Services function across Peterborough City Council. We will look to you to provide the vision and strategic direction that will drive the development of innovative, flexible and community focused approaches to service delivery, leading to performance improvement across the board.

The role will involve providing a financial advisory service to all Directorates. You will maintain accuracy of the Council’s Financial Management function, including forecasts, projections, profiling and financial plans, and ensure that the financial framework for the Council is in place, including the development of financial systems and control of the overall budget.

In addition, you’ll act as lead on the financial aspects of Council-wide transformation initiatives, working with Executive and Service Directors, senior managers and budget holders to maximise opportunities for our city.

About you
An effective manager of people and projects, you will be commercially aware and able to adapt quickly and decisively in complex situations. Your stakeholder management skills — with people both inside and outside the organisation — will be key.

You should be a fully-qualified accountant and member of a CCAB body with demonstrable CPD. You’ll be skilled at strategic leadership and operational management, and have a record of providing accurate, practical service information at senior level. Extensive experience of budget setting and management in a complex organisation will be key, and you should be adept at engaging partners and stakeholders in the improvement of service delivery.
