A 12-month fixed term contract for maternity cover has arisen within Peterborough City Council’s Health and Safety Team.

Peterborough is a dynamic and vibrant City, and the City Council has a comprehensive improvement plan that sets out how it supports communities and businesses across the city. Keeping the Council’s staff safe is critical to this work.

The successful applicant for this role will work closely with a small team of Health and Safety Advisors who provide health and safety advice to the City Council’s staff, its Councillors and its clients.

The post holder must have attained a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health, or equivalent, and have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a relevant field.

The role is largely agile, and travel to and from various council buildings, land and other locations will be required. You will therefore need to hold a full UK driving licence and have a vehicle insured for business use.

You will need sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice and an understanding of how to effectively apply this experience and knowledge in the workplace. The role also includes carrying out various health and safety monitoring activities, such as health and safety audits and inspections of various workplaces.

Excellent interpersonal skills are essential as well as the ability to work with limited supervision away from the office.

You will ideally be a member of IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) and preferably obtained GradIOSH or CMIOSH.

The post holder will need to produce concise and accurate reports and provide appropriate and relevant advice to management and staff. Training will be provided on any council work management and reporting systems.
