An opportunity has arisen to appoint a Cemeteries and Crematorium Technician at Peterborough Bereavement Services which is owned and operated by Peterborough City Council

The successful candidate will be highly flexible, well-motivated and can demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills. They will be part of a small team providing the highest level of customer services to bereaved families, visitors and stakeholders alike.

The main duties and responsibilities of the post include assisting in the provision of our burial service by liaising, as required, with contractors and funeral directors to provide burials at specific times and in accordance with statutory and Health and Safety legislation. Duties also include memorial safety checks within the Council’s cemeteries and to represent the Council at burials and to meet with suppliers, contractors and stone masons.

The role also requires the candidate to provide holiday and lunch cover, as required, in the crematorium chapel to assist preparing for funeral services and help with bearing coffins into the chapel.

When not engaged in Cemetery and chapel duties, the post holder will be required to carry out horticulture duties at the Crematorium, including grass cutting, planting, pruning and maintenance of roses, shrubs and trees; weeding and leaf clearing.

The successful candidate will need to be well presented and have experience of dealing with the public. Significant attention to detail, coupled with the ability to work with minimal supervision is key.

Experience of horticulture or working outdoors is a distinct advantage as is the ability to demonstrate a good working knowledge of Health and safety in the work place. The ability to work flexible hours, including a weekend rota, and have your own car is essential.
