Following the resignation of the current post holder, an opportunity has arisen to appoint a Cemeteries and Crematorium Technician at Peterborough Bereavement Services which is owned and operated by Peterborough City Council
The successful candidate will be highly flexible, well-motivated and can demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills. They will be part of a small team providing the highest level of customer services to bereaved families, visitors and stakeholders alike.
The main duties and responsibilities of the post include assisting in the provision of our burial service by liaising, as required with contractors and funeral directors to provide burials at specific times and in accordance with statutory and Health and Safety legislation. Duties also include memorial safety checks within the Council’s cemeteries and to represent the Council at burials and to meet with suppliers, contractors and stone masons.
A significant part of the role, when not engaged in Cemetery duties, will involve horticulture duties at the Crematorium, including grass cutting, planting, pruning and maintenance of roses, shrubs and trees; weeding and leaf clearing.
The successful candidate will need to be well presented, have experience of dealing with the public, worked in amenity horticulture or a similar environment and demonstrate a good working knowledge of Health and safety in the work place and in particular manual handling. The ability to work flexible hours, including a weekend rota, and have your own car is essential. Significant attention to detail, coupled with the ability to work with minimal supervision is key, whilst having experience of working outdoors is a distinct advantage.
