Peterborough City Council are looking to recruit someone to lead the Council’s Health and Safety team. The role will act as the lead professional on all Health and Safety matters including setting the strategic direction and related objectives for Health and Safety, providing leadership to the team and to positively influence and embed the Health and Safety agenda across the Council and its trading entities and commercial partners.

The role will have accountability for the development of the Health and Safety Services offering within the Council. Developing systems, policies and procedures (including developing appropriate Member and Officer governance and training structures) to ensure the Councils key Health and Safety activities are demonstrably delivering in accordance with their statutory obligations.

The Head of Health and Safety will provide strategic direction, leadership, and management of a small team of qualified Health and Safety Professionals and will be lead in the co ordination of activities across other functions including Property Compliance, HR and Facilities Management Services.

We are looking for a candidate with the required technical expertise along with a strong track record of delivering a step change in service provision (ideally in the public sector), someone with strong stakeholder management skills as well as the ability to manage budgets, people and processes.

The role will report to the Service Director for Commercial, Property and Asset Management and be located from our main offices in the City Centre, but we operate a hybrid approach and you will find yourself working from home, the office and other sites as and when required.
